Diversity In Dentistry Mentorships, Inc. was created to increase the representation of historically underrepresented minority groups in dentistry. Positive mentoring offers a rewarding solution. When it comes to the future of dentistry, we need to help young people realize their potential, provide guidance and spur on the next generation of dental school applicants from historically underrepresented groups. There are many mentorship programs, but do they serve these groups of students effectively? What is working? What needs to be improved? Thought-leaders of community and professional organizations who share our vision have been invited to the “Mentors for the Movement Think Tank” to collaboratively critique, strategize and take the first steps to redesign the mentorship model so we can best prepare mentees to be successful on their journey to dental school, or wherever their passion leads them.
